MALAYSIA recorded 1,925 new Covid-19 cases today, with Selangor continuing to report the most infections at 747.
Kuala Lumpur accounted for 360 cases and Pahang, 288.
The increase in cases in Pahang was due to the Mempaga Tembok cluster, which reported 282 cases of the state’s 288 cases.
This takes the country’s total virus cases to 108,615, of which 21,443 are active.
Two people died from the virus in the last 24 hours, taking the death toll to 457.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the deceased were a 65-year-old man in Hospital Sg Buloh, Selangor, and a 68-year-old woman in Hospital Raja Perempuan Zainab II, Kota Baru.
Noor Hisham said 1,123 people were discharged from hospital, to make it 86,715 recoveries so far.
He said 625 of today’s cases were linked to nine new clusters and detected via screening.
Three hundred and seven more cases were linked to existing clusters in jails and detention centres – the aforementioned Tembok Mempaga cluster (282), Jalan Harapan Prison (9), Tembok Gajah (9), Tembok (3), Pagar Siput (3), and GK Tawau (1).
There are 117 patients in intensive care, 55 of whom need respiratory assistance. – December 29, 2020.
