5 new Covid-19 clusters detected today

The Ministry of Health today reports five new Covid-19 clusters. Two have were detected in Kuala Lumpur, one each in Kelantan, Johor and Putrajaya. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, December 28, 2020.

THE Health Ministry detected five new Covid-19 clusters in the last 24 hours, said Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

The director-general of health said two of the clusters – Tapak Bina Jalan Gadang dan Menara Sri – were detected in Kuala Lumpur through a symptomatic individual and contact tracing.

Another two clusters, the Bukit Pasir cluster in Johor and Pintu Geng cluster in Kelantan, were both traced to a symptomatic individual.

Noor Hisham added that 30 individuals have tested positive for these two clusters; nine from the Bukit Pasir cluster and 21 from the Pintu Geng cluster.

The fifth cluster, which was detected in Putrajaya, was also traced to a symptomatic individual. A total of 31 individuals have been screened for this cluster with eight individuals testing positive for the coronavirus.

A total of 108 cases (6.8%) reported today were related to clusters in lock-ups, immigration detention depots and prisons. 

As of noon, a total of 489 clusters have been reported including the five new clusters.

Noor Hisham also announced the end of four clusters: the Putra-18 cluster, PTS Tawau cluster, Tamar cluster and Intan cluster.

He said out of the 214 active clusters 54 reported new cases today.

Among the highest were the Hentian cluster with 261 cases, followed by the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster with 42 cases and Ceram cluster with 40 cases. – December 28, 2020.
