1,594 new coronavirus cases, 3 deaths in 24 hours

MALAYSIA recorded 1,564 Covid-19 cases in the 24 hours preceding noon today, with Selangor topping the tally of new infections.

Selangor logged 697 cases followed by Kuala Lumpur with 194, and Johor, 191.

Three patients died, taking the death toll to 455.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said total cases added up to 106,690, of which 20,643 were active.

Noor Hisham said 1,181 people were discharged from care today, taking the number of total recoveries to 85,592.

All three of the deceased had medical history of high blood pressure, obesity and diabetes.

Two of them, a male (92) and a female (62) passed away at the Sg Buloh Hospital today. The third patient, another male (62), died at the Hospital Queen Elizabeth in Kota Kinabalu, Sabah.

Meanwhile, a total of 108 cases were related to clusters in lock-ups, immigration detention depots and prisons.

Currently, there are 116 Covid-19-positive patients being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU), of which 53 cases require respiratory assistance. – December 28, 2020.
