THE Health Ministry has reported three new Covid-19 clusters,  all related to workplaces, said Director-General of Health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said that one of them involved a construction site.

A total of 203 cases were reported in these three workplace clusters.

The Bina Metropolis construction site cluster was detected in Kepong, Kuala Lumpur.

As of today, a total of 481 people have been screened in this cluster and 147 have tested positive for Covid-19.

“This cluster started reporting cases since December 14 after a workplace screening was conducted here,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

The second workplace cluster was Estate Maju and this involved the Kota Kinabalu district in Sabah.

Twenty-eight people have tested positive for the virus from a total of 63 people screened.

The third and final workplace cluster was Batu 39, involving the Pontian district in Johor.

From 152 people screened in this cluster, 28 positive cases were detected.

Apart from this, Noor Hisham said the clusters that reported the highest cases for today were the new Bina Metropolis construction site cluster with 140 cases, followed by the Ceram cluster in Negri Sembilan (107) and Jalan Harapan Prison cluster (58).

Malaysia today reported 1,340 new Covid-19 cases, of which 134 cases – or 10% of today’s total – were detected in clusters related to prison and immigration detention centres.

The addition of the three new clusters today brings the total number of clusters in the country to 443, of which 199 are active clusters.

Forty-four of the active clusters were still reporting new daily cases.

Three clusters, meanwhile, have ended today; bringing the total number of clusters that have come to an end in the country to 244.

The three clusters were Saga, Tatahan and Sakti, all of which were reported in Sabah. – December 20, 2020.
