1,340 new Covid-19 cases, Selangor still on top

MALAYSIA today recorded 1,340 new Covid-19 infections and 1,067 recoveries in the last 24 hours.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor topped the list in both new infections and recoveries. 

Selangor reported 441 new cases or 32.9% of today’s total, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 284 cases (21.2%) and Sabah with 196 cases (14.6%). 

This is the fifth straight day Selangor has topped daily new cases, and is also the second consecutive day Selangor, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah record the highest figures.

Of 1,067 patients discharged, Selangor reported 357 recoveries, followed by Sabah with 266 and Pahang with 152. 

Total recoveries in the country now stand at 77,309, or 82.9% of total Covid-19 cases reported. 

Malaysia also reported four fatalities today, taking the nation’s toll to 437. 

Two deaths were recorded in Sabah, and one each in Selangor and Penang.

All victims today were men and above the age of 60.

Three were locals and had a common underlying condition of high blood pressure, while the sole foreigner had no past records. 

The Health Ministry had earlier said more than 50% of deaths in Malaysia due to Covid-19 have had high blood pressure. 

There are 15,563 active cases in the country.

There are currently 116 patients treated in intensive care, with 57 requiring breathing assistance. – December 20, 2020.
