SELANGOR, Kuala Lumpur and Sabah were once again the top three states to record highest daily figures by states, as Malaysia reported 1,153 infections in the last 24 hours.
Active cases in Malaysia now stand at 15,294, where 112 patients are being treated in intensive care, with 56 of them requiring breathing assistance.
Cumulative cases are now 91,969.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor reported 401 cases or 34.8% of total cases today, while there were 281 reported in Kuala Lumpur and 199 in Sabah.
This would be the fourth straight day Selangor has recorded the highest number of cases.
Selangor could have recorded the highest daily cases for 12 consecutive days. However, the streak was snapped when 696 cases were reported in Kuala Lumpur on December 15.
Besides this, Noor Hisham said 176 cases were recorded in clusters related to prisons and immigration depots.
He said 96 cases were reported in the Jalan Harapan prison cluster in Sg Buloh and 80 reported in the Tembok cluster in Kedah.
Besides the new cases, Malaysia today recorded one fatality, taking the nation’s toll to 433 or 0.47% of total cases.
The victim, a 76-year-old female, succumbed to the illness in Penang.
She had a medical history of high blood pressure and dyslipidemia.
Meanwhile, Malaysia today reported 998 recoveries, taking the cumulative total to 76,242. – December 19, 2020.
