Malaysia passes 90,000 mark in Covid-19 cases


Malaysia has crossed the 90,000 mark in total Covid-19 cases after recording 1,683 new cases in the past 24 hours. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, December 18, 2020.

MALAYSIA breached the 90,000 mark in the number of Covid-19 infections after 1,683 new cases were reported in the past 24 hours.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the total number of infections in the country to date is 90,816.

Selangor (692) , Sabah (260) and Kuala Lumpur (197) continued to lead in the daily number of infections.

Noor Hisham, however, said no deaths were recorded in the past 24 hours, keeping the number of fatalities at 432.

There are also 106 patients under intensive care, with 51 requiring ventilator support. 

There were also six new clusters today, taking the number of clusters in the country to 435. The six new clusters were in Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negri Sembilan, Sabah and two in Johor. 

The new clusters are Bina Lebuh (20 cases) in Selangor, Sugud (26) in Sabah, Jalan Tengah site (11) in Kuala Lumpur, Pesiaran Heights (21) in Negri Sembilan, Tembok Gajah (13) in Johor and Utama Rini (22) in Johor. 

Among the clusters, the ministry also said new cases were reported in sixty clusters around the nation.

The clusters which had the highest number of cases reported include the Jalan Harapan prison (235), Bina Muda site (74) and Tembok (55). – December 18, 2020.
