Perikatan parties agree to set up presidential council

PARTY leaders in the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government unanimously agreed yesterday to establish a presidential council to discuss government policies and strengthen cooperation between the parties in the government.

Bersatu secretary-general Hamzah Zainudin said the meeting was chaired by Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin, who is the PN chairman and Bersatu president. 

Hamzah said a secretariat had also been set up for the presidential council, which comprised party leaders in PN.

“At the meeting, the parties in the PN government also discussed forging strong political cooperation to create political stability for the wellbeing of the people and the prosperity of the country,” he said in a statement tonight.

Party leaders who attended yesterday’s meeting include Umno president Ahmad Zahid Hamidi, PAS president Abdul Hadi Awang, MCA president Wee Ka Siong, Sarawak United People’s Party president Dr Sim Kui Hian and Parti Bersatu Sabah president Dr Maximus Johnity Ongkili.

Also present were Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu deputy president Amar Awang Tengah Ali Hasan, Parti Rakyat Sarawak deputy president Joseph Salang Gandum, Parti Bersatu Rakyat Sabah deputy president Arthur Joseph Kurup, Sabah Progressive Party deputy president Edward Dagul, Progressive Democratic Party senior vice-president Paul Igai, MIC secretary-general Asojan Muniyandy and Parti Solidariti Tanah Airku secretary-general Guan Dee Koh Hoi. – Bernama, December 18, 2020.
