Two new Covid-19 clusters in KL, one in Sabah

Another three Covid-19 clusters have been detected by health authorities today, with one of them involving a construction site in Kuala Lumpur. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, December 17, 2020.

THE Health Ministry has identified three new Covid-19 clusters in the past 24 hours, with two clusters registered in Kuala Lumpur, and one in Sabah.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said one of the two clusters in Kuala Lumpur involved a construction site.

The first of two clusters in the capital city was Jalan Rusa, which involves the Cheras district.

A total of 129 positive cases have been reported in this cluster from 1,267 people screened.

“The Covid-19 cases in this cluster were identified through community screenings at a residential area.

“The screenings were carried out after one positive case was detected among the community at the end of November,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.

The second cluster reported in Kuala Lumpur involved a construction site in Lembah Pantai, and is named as Bina Pasifik.

As of today, a total of 159 individuals have been screened and of them, 17 have tested positive for the virus.

The third and final cluster reported today is known as Maringkan, involving the Telupid and Ranau districts in Sabah.

Eleven cases have been traced in this cluster from a total of 93 screened.

The addition of three new clusters today brings the total number of clusters in the country to 429, of which 193 are still active and 41 of them reporting new cases.

Of the active clusters reporting new cases, the Jalan Harapan Prison cluster in Sg Buloh recorded 98 cases today, the highest among all clusters, followed by the newly identified Jalan Rusa cluster (57 cases) and Bintang cluster (50 cases).

A total of six clusters ended today. They were Benteng PK, Kapas BJ, Bah Tropicana and Mentari (all in Selangor), Garden in Sabah and Bah Bercham in Perak. – December 17, 2020.
