MALAYSIA recorded 1,220 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, bringing the cumulative total close to the 90,000 mark.
The current total now stands at 89,133 cases with the number of fatalities at 432.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Selangor tops the number of new infections by state, recording 368 cases or 30.2% of today’s total, followed by Kuala Lumpur with 297 cases (24.3%) and Sabah with 184 cases (15.1%).
“Of the new cases recorded in Selangor, 247 cases or 67.1% of the cases in the state were related to clusters and close contact tracing,” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.
This would be the eighth straight day that the country has recorded four-digit daily cases. The country also recorded three fatalities in the past 24 hours.
Two deaths were reported in Sabah while the third case was in Johor.
All three victims were men and all had past medical history.
The youngest victim was a 36-year-old while the oldest was 81.
A total of 1,297 patients were discharged from hospital today, bringing the number of recoveries in the country to 74,030 or 83.1% of the total number of cases.
Active cases in the country stands at 14,671 with 106 in intensive care with 53 requiring breathing assistance. – December 17, 2020.
