BARISAN Nasional supported Budget 2021 today as the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government had made progress on two of its demands on the loan moratorium extension and withdrawal of retirement funds, former prime minister Najib Razak said.
As such, BN never gave the people false hope that its MPs would reject the budget, he said in a Facebook post.
BN had pushed for an extension on the moratorium on bank loan repayments and for higher withdrawals from the Employees’ Provident Fund’s (EPF) Account 1, and the government had taken steps to adopt those proposals although some matters needed fine-tuning.
“I understand there are some who are disappointed that BN did not reject Budget 2021 today.
“But our stance is that there are only two weeks before 2021 starts, and the government’s expenditure will be based on the budget. If the budget fails now, the government will not have time to make corrections,” he said.
Najib, who is the BN Backbenchers’ Club chairman, said the PN government had fulfilled demands to allow withdrawals from the EPF Account 1 and an extension on the loan moratorium.
He said, however, more fine-tuning needed to be done, and BN would hold the PN government to its word that these issues would be improved on.
“If our demands are not fulfilled and if we still feel cheated after some time, then BN will have a reasonable opportunity to act on it.
“Therefore, it is untrue that we have given false hope to the people as there was clearly progress in these two issues,” he added.
Budget 2021, which was tabled for the third and final reading in the Dewan Rakyat today, was passed with a slim majority of 111 to 108, with one MP absent.
Najib had previously led BN’s criticism of the RM322.5 billion spending plan over the loan moratorium and EPF withdrawal issues, saying that BN’s support for the budget would be conditional upon these two demands meant to alleviate the financial burdens of those affected by the Covid-19 pandemic.
From the vote today, however, it was clear that all but one MP on the government’s side had voted to support the budget. – December 15, 2020.

Bro najib, actually to come to think of it, you are quite a nice guy and a visionary of sorts
Agreed the 1mdb thing but than again there are so many sides to the equation and it would be subjudice to comment on the matter and best left to the courts
I do agree with you bro najib (i'm 65) that you did really go down to the ground ie both locally and globally to lobby for business for the country besides speaking flawless english (a true gentleman) with superb decorum - commendable
It's just that (in politics) its a sum total of permutations ie rather than a science but more of artful art of an art
In many ways bro najib you conduct yourself in a true gentlemanly manner and you basically (in your own way) promote harmony amongst the races
You did make a pertinent point about the tech giants ie goggle/facebook (i forget the other name you had mentioned) and seriously you have a point there
I pray all works out for you bro najib and honestly we all seem to be in a quagmire of the devil and the deep blue sea
Anyway, you are not bad as a singer too bro and may glad tidings come your way
Cheers
