29 of 38 positive cases in two new workplace clusters are foreigners

TWO new Covid-19 clusters have been identified in the last 24 hours with both being workplace clusters, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said that the majority of the cases in the two clusters involve foreigners.

Of the two new clusters, one was detected in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Selangor.

The cluster in Kuala Lumpur is named Senua Setia and involves the Kepong district.

A total of 26 people has been screened in this cluster, and as for today, 13 have been detected positive for the virus.

All those who tested positive for Covid-19 in this cluster are foreigners.

The second cluster is named Solar Ria and it spreads over several districts in Selangor.

This cluster involves Sepang, Kuala Selangor, Gombak, Petaling and Hulu Langat districts.

According to records from the Health Ministry, a total of 2,339 individuals have been screened in this cluster and, of them, 25 positive cases have been detected, nine Malaysians and 16 foreigners.

Noor Hisham said that the index cases for both clusters were detected positive during pre-departure screening before returning to their respective country.

Besides this, the Health DG said that the clusters with the greatest number of new cases today were the Ceram cluster in Negeri Sembilan (220 cases), followed by Bina Muda construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur (143) and Teratai cluster, originating from Top Glove Corp Bhd’s workers dormitories (81).

Including today’s two, a total of 418 clusters have been reported in the country since the onset of the pandemic.

Of the 418, 191 clusters are still active and 46 of them are still reporting new cases.

Two clusters ended today. They are the Benteng Lahad Datu cluster in Sabah and the Greenhill cluster in Sarawak. – December 14, 2020.
