MALAYSIA recorded 1,371 new Covid-19 cases in the last 24 hours, putting the number of cumulative cases in the country at 84,826.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said of the new cases, Selangor once again recorded the highest by state, with 532 cases or 38.8% of today’s total.
He said infections from clusters and close contact tracing contributed to 420 cases or 78.9% of the cases in Selangor.
This would be the seventh straight day Selangor has topped cases by state.
Sabah was second on the list with 283 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan with 260 cases.
Of the new cases today, only one was imported.
Malaysia also recorded four fatalities today, taking the country’s death toll to 419.
Two deaths were recorded in Sabah, and one each in Labuan and Perak.
Three of the deaths, who were women, had underlying medical conditions, while the sole male victim, a foreigner, had no medical records.
A total of 1,204 patients were discharged from hospital as of noon today, taking the total number of recoveries in the country to 70,597.
The number of active cases in Malaysia now stands at 13,830, with 114 patients treated in intensive care, and 62 of them requiring respiratory assistance. – December 14, 2020.
