6 new Covid-19 clusters, 4 related to workplaces

Six new Covid-19 clusters have been reported today with one called Desa Idaman in Kulai, Johor, termed as ‘religious-related’. MALAYSIA today recorded six new Covid-19 clusters, taking the total number of active clusters in the country to 191.

Of the new clusters, four were related to workplaces – including one construction site, one was related to high-risk groups and the final one related to religious activities.

The first workplace cluster, Rimbun, was detected in Seremban, Negri Sembilan and is a construction site cluster.

To date, this cluster has seen 16 people testing positive for the virus, out of 206 people screened.

The second workplace cluster is Hujung Pasir, detected in Labuan. A total of 143 individuals have been screened here and five positive cases have been reported.

The third workplace cluster is Tanjung Suria, which spread over several districts in Selangor, involving Sepang, Gombak, Kuala Selangor and Hulu Selangor.

As of today, a total of 8,480 people have been screened in this cluster and 31 have tested positive for the virus.

The final workplace cluster is named Kuala and involves the Kuantan district in Pahang.

In this cluster, 26 people have been screened for the virus and all of them were found positive.

The fifth new cluster is the Lestari cluster, which was related to high-risk groups in the Petaling, Hulu Langat, Klang and Sepang districts in Selangor, and the Lembah Pantai district in Kuala Lumpur.

A total of 351 people from this cluster have undergone screening with 31 testing positive as of today.

The last new cluster is Desa Idaman, involving the Kulai district in Johor, and it is termed as a religious-related cluster.

No further elaboration was given to describe this cluster but the Health Ministry said that eight people have tested positive for Covid-19 from a total of 52 people screened.

The number of new clusters today brings the total clusters in the country to 416, with 191 being active clusters and 52 of them reporting new cases.

Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters reporting a high number of cases were Tembok (103), Seruling (93) and Rumah Merah (78).

On the other hand, four clusters have ended today. They were Wisma Saberkas in Sarawak, the Sauh and Basung clusters in Sabah, and Auto in Selangor. – December 13, 2020.
