PAS has been granted an audience with Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah of Perak to explain itself for declining an earlier meeting at the height of menteri besar tussle, said Hadi Awang

The party president however refused to divulge when the party would meet the ruler.

On Monday, state legislators from all parties were ordered to meet Sultan Nazrin so the ruler could gauge who among them had majority support to become menteri besar.

PAS has come under fire for disrespecting the sultan after it emerged that the party had ordered its three state assemblymen to refuse the summons.

“We have submitted a formal letter and we have received a reply.

“When the time comes, we will go,” said Marang MP Hadi during a special press conference today.

Perak PAS head Razman Zakaria said last week the assemblymen would seek an audience with Sultan Nazrin when there was a directive to do so from party headquarters.

However, the decision was met with criticism as many had labeled the party as being disrespectful to the sultan.

Following the backlash, Razman issued an apology adding the party has always upheld the institution of the Perak sultanate and would remain loyal to Sultan Nazrin.

“We humbly express our apologies to the sultan of Perak for our mistake of not appearing before him when he summoned us on Tuesday, December 8 at 3pm,” he told a media conference at the Perak PAS headquarters.

The party’s organ Harakahdaily had also come under severe criticism over the manner of its portrayal of the ruler.
