India busts terror plot by Malaysia-based group linked to Zakir Naik

Muslim cleric Zakir Naik is wanted in India to answer charges of money laundering and inciting violence through hate speech, but Malaysia has ignored persistent calls for his deportation from both the Indian government and the Malaysian people. – December 12, 2020.

INDIA has uncovered a well-advanced plan for terror attacks on its soil plotted by a group based in Malaysia and linked to Zakir Naik, Times of India reported today.

Crucial financial transactions linked to the Muslim preacher were intercepted by Indian intelligence indicating a Rohingya group in Malaysia was in the late stages of coordinating a terror strike on an Indian city in the next few weeks, said the report.

The states of Ayodhya, Bodhgaya, Punjab and Srinagar were also mentioned as likely attack targets.

The leader of the group is a woman from Myanmar.

Times of India said it sighted an intel document that tracked about US$200,000 (RM800,000) of financial transactions connected to Kuala Lumpur-based Rohingya leader Mohammed Naseer and Zakir.

A portion of the funds had been paid to a Chennai-based person suspected to be a hawala broker.

It was also learnt out that a group would infiltrate India this month via Bangladesh.

Indian investigators are working to find out if a Rohingya militant group that had last year raised funds purportedly for Myanmar refugees in Malaysia was involved in the plot.

Meanwhile, the female terrorist leader was believed to have been trained in Myanmar for the operation and sent to Malaysia early in the year, the report said quoting a source.
