JOHOR will send 1,000 food baskets to stranded Malaysians in Singapore, Menteri Besar Husni Mohammad said today.

He said 300 baskets will be distributed in the first phase, while the rest will be distributed in stages.

“The delivery and distribution of the first 300 food baskets involving a cost of RM30,000 will be done immediately and the rest will be implemented in stages,” Husni said in a statement today.

The Johor MB said the baskets will include personal hygiene products and blankets.

He said the state government will work with the High Commission of Malaysia in Singapore to facilitate the distribution of the food baskets and that it would also be the centre of collection and distribution.

“I hope the food basket programme will help needy Malaysians in Singapore,” he said.

This came about after Foreign Minister Hishammuddin Hussein had said on November 24 that Putrajaya would take immediate measures to assist Malaysian workers stranded in Singapore due to the closed borders.

Singapore has tightened the border measures for those from Malaysia following a resurgence of Covid-19 cases in the country.

Hishammuddin said  Malaysia has not blocked its citizens from returning but they must adhere to strict procedures if they do. – December 3, 2020.
