SENIOR Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob has assured the public’s data in the MySejahtera app is protected.

“It (MySejahtera) is regulated under the Personal Data Protection Act 2012, where the Act protects the data and it would be an offence if the data is shared by anyone.

“As for its security feature, it complies with international standards in protecting the confidentiality and security of data,” he said in his Covid-19 press briefing today, when asked if the data could be easily accessed.

Recently, a lot of questions were asked on the kind of data MySejahtera was collecting and if it was safe and protected.

MySejahtera is a free app that can be downloaded into smartphones and has become a key tool for the Health Ministry to carry out contact tracing in the event someone tests positive for Covid-19.

The app was developed through a strategic cooperation involving the National Security Council (NSC), the Health Ministry, Malaysian Administrative Modernisation and Management Planning Unit, Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission and Science, Technology and Innovation Ministry.

Ismail Sabri urged the public not to worry as the app is under the government and the data is well protected.

MySejahtera is wholly owned by the Health Ministry and regulated by the National Cyber Security Agency and the NSC. – December 2, 2020.
