THE enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) in Zone B and Zone C areas in Taman Meru 2C, Ipoh will be extended by another week, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob.

This is because some residents in these localities are still awaiting Covid-19 test results.

“The Health Ministry has conducted a total of 1,793 Covid-19 tests and 66 in these localities have been confirmed positive.

“As there are still some who have yet to get their test results, and based on the ministry’s advice and risk assessment, we have agreed to extend the EMCO in these zones for another seven days,” the defence minister said in his Covid-19 press briefing today.

The EMCO in these areas started on November 20 and was scheduled to end tomorrow.

With the extension now, the EMCO in these areas will end on December 10.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also said the lockdown at Seberang Perai Prison and staff quarters in Penang will end today as scheduled.

“The ministry has conducted 3,254 Covid-19 screenings here, with 606 confirmed positive.

“However, the last positive case recorded was on November 29. All the remaining tests results have been obtained and there are none pending.

“Hence, the EMCO, which started on October 22, and later extended, will end today as scheduled,” he said.

Aside from this, Ismail Sabri said the EMCO in the Tawau temporary detention centre, Sandakan Prison and staff quarters in Taman Wira, as well as Kg Nahaba and Tegudon in Kota Belud will also be lifted as scheduled tomorrow.

The decision is taken based on advice and risk assessment by the ministry. – December 2, 2020.
