DEWAN Rakyat Speaker Azhar Azizan Harun is unsure if Willie Mongin gave the middle finger to the opposition in Parliament yesterday.

Azhar said he has seen the video of the deputy plantation industries and commodities minister’s action but the recording is not clear.

He also sought for an explanation from the Puncak Borneo MP, but Willie denied the matter.

“Honestly, I did not see what had happened because I am having eyesight problems.

“Last night, I asked for further clarification from the deputy minister and he vehemently denied the matter,” he told the house this morning at the end of the daily question time.

Azhar also said he had watched the video many times in slow motion.

“I can’t be sure whether it really happened or not.”

Azhar was responding to Khoo Poay Tiong (PH-Kota Melaka) who asked what was the speaker’s position on the incident.

Khoo then offered to show a clearer video to Azhar.

Yesterday, Willie denied showing the middle finger at the opposition in the Dewan Rakyat after the opposition claimed he had done just that

“Chairman, I wish to confirm that it is untrue but I’m ready to apologise if it did happen.

“I believe, that they may have seen wrongly,” he said after Azhar asked him to explain.

video of the incident was uploaded on Twitter.

Willie is among 10 MPs who defected from PKR to Bersatu, leading to Pakatan Harapan’s collapse in February.

However, amid the shouts by opposition MPs for Azhar to re-examine the CCTV footage, the speaker decided to adjourn the proceedings without taking any further action.

“But Minister for Higher Education Noraini Ahmad (BN-Parit Sulong) saw it, too,” said P. Kasthuriraani (PH-Batu Kawan).

“She even told Willie to cool it several times,” she said.

Azhar, nevertheless, decided it was time to adjourn and paid no heed to it.

This is not the first time Willie has courted trouble in Parliament.

In August 2018, he accused Bung Moktar Radin (BN-Kinabatangan) of visiting casinos, prompting the latter to challenge him to a fist fight.

Bung Moktar, who is now Sabah deputy chief minister, had also shouted back “Fxxx you!” at Willie. – December 2, 2020.

  • He is always so unsure about everything. Maybe we need to change the Speaker.
