A GOOD deal with Covid-19 test kit vendors has allowed Bukit Gasing assemblyman Rajiv Rishyakaran to offer screenings at only RM70 for the public.

Rajiv told The Malaysian Insight that he managed to get the rapid test kit-antigen (RTK-AG) at bulk prices from the same vendors supplying them to the Health Ministry.

The offer is in collaboration with two private clinics in Petaling Jaya.

It’s possible for the screenings to be done at an even lower rate, depending on the quantity of the kits bought, he said, wondering why the rate at health facilities is much higher in comparison.

“The RM70 includes payment for the test kit and doctor’s consultation fee. So, it is not impossible for this screening to be offered at a cheaper price.”

Currently, the cost to undergo a Covid-19 screening is between RM150 and RM180 in private health facilities.

When asked about the actual cost of each kit, Rajiv said he could not disclose the price as stipulated in the agreement with the vendors.

“I am looking at the possibility of lowering the prices if I can do so.

“Based on the negotiations with the test equipment supplier, I know there is a possibility for RTK-AG screening to be available nationwide at RM70 for everyone, without subsidies, but it depends on the government.”

Rajiv said the kit could cost a lot less if larger quantities are ordered.

“So far, we have no target for the number of kits that can be supplied, as long as there is a demand, the kit can be obtained from the vendor.

“That is why I started this initiative for all Malaysians, not limited to the residents in the Bukit Gasing area.”

On the service to provide cheap tests, Rajiv said subsidies are also given to the B40 group in the Bukit Gasing area where they pay only RM30 while he would top up the remaining RM40.

The doctors conducting the Covid-19 tests for Rajiv’s programme are all certified by the Health Ministry in compliance with regulations.

In order to allow more people to participate in the screening process, Rajiv has created a 24-hour hotline.

“To register for this Covid-19 screening, complete your information – name, address, identity card number and family phone number – via WhatsApp to 016-306 4104. Then you will get an appointment date via the same hotline number.

“Tests will be conducted based on appointments only and people do not have to queue up or wait at the clinic, this is also to enforce physical distancing or avoid having too many people in a place.” – December 2, 2020.

  • This a good example of a true representative of the people. Unlike the robbers and pillagers who spout meaningless slogans like 'demi bangsa, agama dan negara' while doing absolutely nothing beneficial, this gentleman should be applauded by all.
