Two factories in Ipoh go under EMCO

Fresh infections in Ipoh, Sandakan and Lahad Datu promt EMCO in those areas, says Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Irwan Majid, November 30, 2020.

TWO localities in Ipoh, Perak have been placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) for 14 days starting December 1 following a spike in new Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the two localities are Zon A, Taman Klebang Jaya and Taman Pinji Mewah, both in Ipoh.

The infections involved workers from two factories, namely Kamaya and Salutica.

“Based on our risk assessment, the infections have spread to their hostels. To date, 1,402 workers from Kamaya have been tested and 228 were found positive.

“Of the 228 cases, 110 were recorded from workers staying at the Zon A, Taman Klebang Jaya.

“For workers from Salutica, 119 individuals have been found positive.”

The EMCO at Taman Klebang Jaya will affect 1,061 houses with 4,244 residents while at the Taman Pinji Mewah, 1,430 homes and 44 unit of shoplots with 5,720 residents will be affected, said Ismail Sabri.

Meanwhile, Ismail Sabri also announced EMCO at the temporary detention centre in Sibuga, Sandakan as well as at the Kg Desa Bajau and Kg Dasar Baru, Lahad Datu in Sabah.

“At the centre in Sibuga Sandakan, health officials have screened 324 individuals and found 104 people infected. This figure involves detainees and staff at the PTS.

“Based on the risk assessment, Putrajaya has agreed to impose EMCO at the PTS for 14 days from December 2 to December 15.”

As for Kg Desa Bajau and Kg Dasar Baru in Lahad Datu, 665 tests were done and 90 cases have been found.

“The EMCO will also take place for 14 days untill December 15. The ECMO will involve 914 homes and affect 4,934 people,” he said. – November 30, 2020.
