A SENIOR citizen was murdered and his wife was seriously injured when they were attacked by robbers at their home in Bangsar, Kuala Lumpur, early today.
Wan Hassan Wan Embong, 71, a former director at the information technology division of the Malaysian Agricultural Research and Development Institute (Mardi) died after he was hacked in the neck and face.
His wife, Sarifah Yusof, 70, also a former civil servant, is currently receiving treatment at hospital for slash wounds.
Brickfields district police chief Anuar Omar said the entire area – Jalan Mambu, off Jln Penaga close to the Bangsar Shopping Complex (BSC) – was in darkness following a power outage at around 1am.
“The robbers, who were not wearing masks, struck at the family home at 3.30am,” Anuar said.
The victims heard a noise in the kitchen and went to check when they were confronted by the two robbers who demanded money.
The victim put up a fight when he was hacked. Sarifah was also slashed on the right shoulder when she went to her husband’s aid.
The robbers then fled with an undisclosed amount in valuables through a kitchen window.
Anuar said no arrests have been made thus far but police have lifted fingerprints from the crime scene. – November 29, 2020.
