Four new virus clusters in Sabah, two in Selangor

Six new Covid-19 clusters have been detected in Malaysia today, with four in Sabah while the remaining two are in Selangor. – The Malaysian Insight file pic, November 28, 2020.

SIX new Covid-19 clusters have been reported today, taking the total number of active clusters in the country to 180.

The Health Ministry said in a statement that 44 of the 180 active clusters recorded an increase in new infections.

“Among the clusters that recorded a spike is the Enggor cluster with 126 cases, Teratai with 90 cases and Bintang with 71,” said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

“We have identified six new clusters today. Four in Sabah, one in Petaling Jaya and another one was found in Cheras,” he added.

Speaking on the new clusters, Noor Hisham said the four clusters in Sabah were detected at the temporary detention centre in Sibuga, Sandakan; at a construction site in Jesselton, Kota Kinabalu; while another two were discovered at Dermaga, Sandakan and Tempasuk, Kota Belud.

The two clusters in the peninsula, he said, were known as the UD SS2 cluster and Awan Biru construction site cluster.

“The PTS in Sibuga was found on November 5 following a symptomatic screening, 324 people have been tested, with 104 individuals found positive.

“For the Jesselton construction site cluster, the index case was discovered on November 28 from a workplace screening, 181 workers have been screened and 44 of them positive,” he said.

At the Dermaga cluster, 34 people were found to be positive from the 297 people screened, and the Tempasuk cluster in Kota Belud had infected 12 people.

As for the two new clusters in Selangor, Noor Hisham said the UD SS2 cluster has infected 13 individuals while the Awan Biru construction site cluster has 31 positive Covid-19 cases.

To date, 175 clusters have ended, including two today. – November 28, 2020.
