MALAYSIANS are tired of politicians trying to embark on power grabs amid the Covid-19 pandemic as the country struggles with health concerns and economic problems, said Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin.

The Bersatu president who came into power nine months ago when the Pakatan Harapan (PH) government collapsed, said people were fed up with politicians and politics.

“I know the people have started to get fed up with endless politicking. The people want political leaders to help them, not forever vying for power,” Muhyiddin said at the Bersatu annual general assembly today.

He added the people were instead expecting politics of service as they were facing hardships as they were losing jobs because of the bad economy.

“Let us rise to the occasion. This is the time to serve the people. This is the time for us to serve the people – practice service politics, caring politics, work politics. Not a power struggle,” Muhyiddin said.

Muhyiddin was made prime minister when the PH government collapsed as he withdrew Bersatu from the coalition. He went on to form the Perikatan Nasional (PN) government with Umno, PAS, GPS and other Barisan Nasional component parties.

Recently, Opposition Leader Anwar Ibrahim claimed he had a “strong, formidable and convincing” majority and the PN government has fallen.

Muhyiddin explained the country was facing hardship with a lot of people being laid off and small businesses struggling, which meant there needs to be support from the government.

“How many have fallen into poverty. From the M40 group to the B40 due to job losses and income sources. Vulnerable groups in our society are the most severely affected. In addition to low income, they do not have enough savings to cover daily expenses in difficult times.”

The Pagoh MP added on his part he had put together an economic stimulus package worth RM303 billion and his government has tabled a RM322.5 billion budget to help the country through these troubled times.

“Therefore, the government’s current focus is to alleviate the burden of the people affected by the Covid-19 pandemic,” Muhyiddin said.

The government was also looking to provide the public with Covid-19 vaccination as early as January to reduce public anxiety.

“God willing, we will receive the supply of vaccines in stages starting the first quarter of next year,” Muhyiddin said. – November 28, 2020.

  • This is rich coming from the man who initiated the power grab in sabah which unleashed the current wave of covid-19 and who also destroyed the peoples hopes and betrayed the peoples mandate when he brought down the Harapan government so that he could be PM

  • Its like telling another fox not to steal the chicken after it has raided the coop earlier. The backdoor PM should take a long hard look at himself in the mirror.

  • All we know is that he is just throwing goodies to the politicians to keep himself in power.
