Overnight flood forces 128 people in Bintulu to evacuate

SOME 128 people from 43 families in Bintulu were forced out from their homes in the early hours of this morning after flooding in the Sg Plan and Sg Sebatang areas.

With the exception of seven people from two families in Lidurng Avenue, most of the victims were from two squatter settlements close to the two rivers.

Seven families, with a total of 67 people, were evacuated from Sg Plan, while 11 families were rescued from Sg Sebatang.

Firefighters were called out at around 1.40am to evacuate the families in boats, before taking them to the temporary shelter at Stadium Muhibah.

The state disaster management committee operation room said that by 10pm last night, they had received 25 flood calls, requesting assistance. – November 28, 2020.
