DIRECTOR-GENERAL of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has assured the public that the giant Teratai cluster in Klang, Selangor has not spread to the community.

Only the factory workers and their close contacts were infected so far, he said.

“(There are) no community infections so far,” he said.

He said 164 of the infected workers were Malaysians living in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur. They had infected their families at home.

Dr Noor Hisham said as of today, 6,506 people linked to the Teratai cluster were screened with 4,063 testing positive.

The cluster – the largest in the country – was detected on November 2 when a batch of foreign workers were screened preparatory to departure for home. The discovery of 10 positive cases led to contact tracing.

In a statement today, Top Glove executive chairman Lim Wee Chai not all of the 4,036 cases from the Teratai cluster stemmed from the company.

Lim said some 7,000 employees, both local and migrant, were screened for Covid-19.

He said about 3,000 of them tested positive.

“(There) are other factories (in the Teratai cluster) not only Top Glove…Top Glove (accounts for) maybe about 3,000,” he told a media briefing. – November 25, 2020.
