Five new clusters, 169 active

Five new clusters are reported in the country today, bringing the total humber of active ones to 169, of which 40 recorded an increase in cases, says Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Seth Akmal, November 25, 2020.

FIVE new clusters have been reported in the past 24 hours, taking the total number of active clusters in the country to 169, said Health Director-General Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said of the 169 active clusters, 40 of them recorded an increase of Covid-19 cases.

“Until November 25, there have been 339 clusters in the country with five new clusters today,” he said.

“We have closed 170 clusters so far with three reported today. The three are Idaman cluster in Selangor, Bayu in Sabah and Bah Kota in Negeri Sembilan and Selangor.

“There are currently 169 active clusters with 40 recording a spike in the number of new infections.

“Clusters that reported the highest number of new cases today are Bakti Cluster (301 cases), D’Bajaru Cluster (56 cases) and Pengkalan Barat Cluster (40 cases),” he said.

Commenting on the five new clusters, Noor Hisham said the D’Bajaru cluster from Lahad Datu in Sabah was detected from screenings at two high risk villages in Lahad Datu.

“Until November 25, 609 people have been screened and 90 people have been tested positive,” said Noor Hisham.

On the Gangsa cluster in Kuala Langat Selangor, the index case was found positive on November 23 and has already infected 30 people involving one Malaysian and 29 non-Malaysians.

The Batu Tujuh and Tanjung Bunga clusters from Batu Pahat and Johor Bahru in Johor originated from Severe Acute Respiratory Infections (SARI) patients who were tested positive for Covid-19 on November 21 and November 22 respectively.

“For the Batu Tujuh cluster, 144 people have been tested and 13 were found positive while for the Tanjung Bunga cluster, 87 people screened where 11 were infected,” he added.

The final cluster, Kerengge cluster from Marang in Terengganu has already infected six people, according to Noor Hisham.

“More than 600 people have been screened. The index case was found positive on November 17 following a symptomatic screening,” he said. – November 25, 2020.
