TWO officers and four rank and file policemen from the Sentul police district police station were arrested two days ago over RM1.6 million worth of cash that was undeclared after a raid on the home of a Chinese national in Jinjang.

Kuala Lumpur Police Chief Saiful Azly Kamaruddin, who confirmed the arrests stated that two of them were senior officers with the rank of Assistant Superintendent of Police while the other four were lower rank police personnel.

“They were detained on November 23 and released a day later. The investigation was conducted under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft in a building and Section 384 of the same code for extortion.

“All of them have been released on police bail and are still on duty but follow-up action will be taken in the near future,” he told The Malaysian Insight.

Sources said the incident occurred on November 12, when six policemen from the Commercial Crime Investigation Division (CCID) raided a house in Jinjang after receiving information related to a fraud case.

“During the raid, they found cash. They treated the operation like a normal raid but the RM1.6 million cash was not reported.

“In fact, the Chinese nationals were also not detained and the policemen involved took the money from the suspects,” the sources said.

The fraud suspects then lodged a police report at Sentul police station on November 18.

Acting on the report, a team from the Kuala Lumpur Serious Crime Unit (D9) made gradual arrests of all suspects on Monday.

“Some of the cash stolen by the policemen were found in their respective homes. However, the total amount of money recovered was only RM500,000.”

Police are now tracking down the remaining cash stolen by the group of policemen. – November 25, 2020.
