2,348 recoveries v 970 new virus cases

TODAY saw 2,348 people recovered from Covid-19, more than twice the number of new infections and a record for the number of people discharged from care in a day since the onset of the epidemic.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said this took total recoveries to 46,501.

Four deaths from the virus were recorded, putting the toll at 345.

New cases dropped to 970 compared to 2,188 yesterday.

“Of the 970 new cases, five are imported and 965 local transmission cases,” he told a press conference.

Total reported Covid-19 cases now number 59,817, of which 12,971 are active.

Meanwhile, Noor Hisham said Negri Sembilan accounted for 318 of the new infections, followed by Sabah (293) and Selangor (115).

He said the Bakti prison cluster contributed 301 cases in Negri Sembilan.

“The other cases in Negri Sembilan are from existing clusters,” said Noor Hisham.

“As for Sabah, 92 cases are from existing clusters, 56 new cases from new cluster D’Bajaru, 129 cases detected during close contact tracing, and 72 cases during screening.”

In Selangor, 63 of the 115 new cases are from existing clusters, including 23 cases from a new cluster called Gangsa.

“We discovered 23 cases during contact tracing, four were severe acute respiratory infection patients (who tested positive for Covid-19), three were imported cases and 22 during screening,” – November 25, 2020.
