THE residential areas of Sg Seluang in Kulim, Kedah and Taman Telipok Ria in Tuaran, Sabah will go into lockdown following a surge in Covid-19 cases.

Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said an enhanced movement control order for these two areas is effective Friday until December 10.

“The EMCO will affect 6,000 residents in Sg Seluang and 18,000 residents in Taman Telipok.

“The decision was made after consultation with the Healthy Ministry following a rise of Covid-19 cases in these areas.

“The EMCO will restrict movements in and out of the areas and make it easier for health authorities to screen the residents for Covid-19 tests,” he said.

Both areas will comply with the usual SOPs for an EMCO, he said.

However, food will be supplied to the residents of Sg Seluang by the state disaster operation control centre as shops in the area will not be allowed to open.

Since November 22, the authorities have screened 2,609 people for infection in Taman Telipok Ria.

Of these, 253 tested positive and 581 are awaiting their results.

Malaysia reported a record 2,188 new Covid-19 cases yesterday.

New cases dropped to 970 today, taking the total number of cases to 59,817. – November 25, 2020.
