TOP Glove’s 28 factories in the Kapar industrial zone in Klang will be closed in stages after recording high numbers of Covid-19 infections, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.

Just today alone, more than a thousand cases have been recorded involving the glove maker’s factories and workers’ living quarters, he told the daily briefing on Covid-19 movement restrictions.

“The hostels for male and female workers are currently under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) but we have discovered cases increasing tremendously.

“Today alone, there are 1,067 positive cases. As of today also, health authorities have screened 5,794 individuals and 1,889 tested positive.

“Therefore, we have agreed to close all 28 factories in stages to allow more screening to be carried out as well as for quarantine,” said Ismail Sabri.

The EMCO was imposed on the workers’ dormitory from November 17 to 30, involving residents of hostels at Jalan Abadi 1A/8, Jalan Abadi 1A and Jalan Abadi 10A/KU8, after 215 Covid-19 cases were detected at the dormitories.

The EMCO was put in place after some 200 foreign workers tested positive for the virus. – November 23, 2020.
