THE Kelantan Islamic Religious Affairs Department  (JAHEAIK) has decided to not allow engagement ceremonies and wedding receptions to be held in the state during enforcement of the conditional movement-control order (CMCO).

Its deputy director, Tengku Kamaruddin Tengku Alias, said marriage solemnisation is, however, allowed, but to be conducted in accordance with the prescribed standard operating procedure (SOP) and conditions.

He said the conditions included that the ceremony be performed at private premises, mosque or surau and to be attended only by 20 guests, including the kadi, bride, bridegroom, guardian and witness.

During the period, pre-marriage courses will also be postponed and marriage counselling services will only be available online, he said when contacted by Bernama today.

Last Friday, Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said following the increase in Covid-19 cases, a partial lockdown will be implemented for two weeks, starting November 21, in Kelantan. – Bernama, November 23, 2020.
