SARAWAK recorded no Covid-19 case today, the first time in slightly more than a month when no infections was last reported on October 19.

The outlook and increasingly downward trend of the number of cases in the state have buoyed the prospect of the conditional movement-control order (CMCO) in Kuching district being lifted tomorrow.

The populous district is the only place in the state with movement restrictions to halt the spread of the infectious disease that has claimed 19 lives and infected 1,055 to date.

Deputy Chief Minister James Masing, who has taken temporary charge of the state disaster management committee, has called for a press conference tomorrow to give an update on the pandemic in the state.

Kuching is still in the red zone – having 40 active cases or more – and six clusters still active.

The committee said another victim has also recovered from the infection today and was allowed to be discharged from the Sarawak General Hospital in Kuching.

The discharge pushed the state’s recovery rate to 92.13% or 972 of the 1,055 victims.

As of today, only 64 victims are still warded in hospitals across the state, kept in isolation and being treated – 56 in the general hospital, with the remaining eight in the Miri Hospital.

None of them is in intensive care, the committee added. – November 21, 2020.
