THE MySejahtera app has not been too kind to Malaysians returning from Singapore under the Periodic Commuting Arrangement (PCA), reports The Star.
Despite having served their quarantine, tested for Covid-19 and getting the all clear from the republic’s health authorities for the Covid-19 infection, many returning Malaysians still find themselves categorised as high risk by the Ministry of Health app designed for Covid-19 contact tracing and monitor the spread of the disease within the population.
The app classified them as high risk for up to 14 days, Malaysia-Singapore Workers task force president Dayalan Sreebalan told the portal.
He said their status meant they were unable to enter many public places, including government buildings and banks.
“Even if they are sick, they can’t go to any public hospital or clinic,” Sreebalan said.
“They were instead directed to facilities that handle Covid-19 patients,” he added.
Sreebalan said complaints are becoming more frequent lately.
He appealed to the ministry to update the MySejahtera app to reflect the status given by Singapore.
“Many of those who were tested for Covid-19 when they returned under PCA received their results and were released from quarantine after two or three days but in the MySejahtera app, their status is stated as high risk for up to 14 days.”
Sreebalan also highlighted the plight of Malaysians with Singapore permanent resident status, who were forced to undergo up to 14 days’ quarantine in Malaysia upon their return because they were not eligible for PCA or travel under the Reciprocal Green Lane (RGL) arrangement.
He said nobody was addressing the issue and that he had appealed to the Sultan of Johor Ibrahim Iskandar to help mediate the reopening of the border with Singapore.
“We have a memorandum containing more than 20,000 signatures of Malaysians, mostly workers, who are appealing to the sultan to step in to help resolve the problem.”
Sreebalan said he is making arrangements to meet an official from the palace to hand over the memo.
Commuting have been migrating between Malaysia and Singapore using the PCA and RGL since August. – November 21, 2020.
