SARAWAK will decide on Sunday whether to lift or extend the two-week old conditional movement control order (CMCO) for the Kuching district.

It will be Deputy Chief Minister James Masing’s first major decision in his new role of acting chairman of the state disaster management committee.

Masing chaired his first meeting via Zoom this morning

The state cabinet on Wednesday appointed the second-most senior of three deputy chief ministers to temporarily fill the position after the  committee chairman Douglas Uggah went on medical leave for a month after undergoing minor heart surgery on Tuesday.

Uggah is recuperating and resting in a private hospital in Kuching.

The CMCO was imposed following a sharp spike in Covid-19 cases that plunged the district deep into the red zone.

All six Covid-19 clusters currently active in the state are in Kuching, Sarawak’s most populous district.

Of the state’s 72 cases still in hospital, 63 are in the general hospital in Kuching. – November 20, 2020.
