THE National Security Council (NSC) has imposed enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) in Taman Meru 2C in Ipoh as well as two localities in Kota Belud, Sabah after recording a high number of Covid-19 cases.

In announcing the move, senior minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the three areas will be under lockdown for two weeks.

“Two zones, that are zone B and zone C in Taman Meru 2C in Ipoh will be under EMCO until December 3. The same goes to Kg Nahaba and Kg Tegudon both in Kota Belud.

“All activities will be stopped and no one is allowed to leave or enter the area without permission from the police. Food supplies will be provided to the residents in affected areas,” said Ismail Sabri.

In Taman Meru 2C, Ismail Sabri said that until November 16, 938 people had been screened and 76 found positive for Covid-19.

As for the two villages in Kota Belud, the Health Ministry found 36 cases as of noon yesterday.

“The EMCO in Ipoh will affect 2,288 residents from 572 homes while in Kota Belud 1,740 people will be placed under the semi lockdown,” said Ismail Sabri.

Several areas in Sabah have been placed under EMCO since September after a spike in daily cases.

Cases spiked dramatically after the Sabah elections, which saw the state administration changed. – November 18, 2020.
