KUALA Lumpur MPs have called for the dissolution of Yayasan Wilayah Persekutuan (YWP) following the Public Accounts Committee’s (PAC) findings on City Hall’s land deals.

The PAC revealed yesterday that Kuala Lumpur City Hall had not followed proper procedures in the sale of 97 plots of land.

The MPs said that, not only were there elements of conflict of interest in the deals, but that they also involved the sale of government assets.

Kepong MP Lim Lip Eng said the foundation is tasked with the sale and rental of billboards, government land and parking lots.

“These are government assets. Why are they being managed by a registered company?” he told a press conference at the Parliament lobby today.

“I hope the government will disband YWP. If it wants a charitable foundation, it can form a special department for community through the Women, Family and Community Development Ministry or City Hall,” he said.

Meanwhile, Setiawangsa MP Nik Nazmi Nik Ahmad said YWP had been involved in the sale of a plot of land meant for the community.

“YWP is chaired by Federal Territories Minister Annuar Musa; there’s a conflict of interest.

“YWP is also involved in City Hall’s land sale that was earmarked for the use of the people and a recreational spot for a condominium development.

“Although a residential association has brought the case to the court and it is ongoing, the developer has started construction and selling of units. This must be resolved soon,” he said.

PAC chairman Wong Kah Woh (Ipoh Timur-PH) had yesterday said City Hall had sold 97 properties since 2011 without following proper procedures.

“The process was too loose and exposed the government to abuse, and did not protect the interests of City Hall,” Wong had said.

The PAC said City Hall had given out more than 200 development orders before the Kuala Lumpur City Plan 2020 was approved by the minister.

“This has caused a negative impact to the environment and worsened the density and plot ratio of those areas,” said Wong.

The committee tabled its report on the sale of land owned by City Hall to the Dewan Rakyat yesterday.

The probe into its land sales began in April 2019 and was completed in November the same year.

The PAC said there is also a conflict of interest in the management of YWP as the Federal Territories minister and Kuala Lumpur mayor both hold positions in the organisation. – November 18, 2020.
