1,210 new Covid-19 cases, 5 deaths

MALAYSIA today reported 1,210 new Covid-19 infections and five deaths in the last 24 hours.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said 19 of today’s cases were imported. 

He said the new cases bring the national caseload to 49,730 while the death toll now stands at 318. 

Noor Hisham said Klang Valley accounted for the bulk of the cases at 518 while Sabah recorded 499. 

Meanwhile, 1018 patients were discharged from the hospital after recovering from the coronavirus in the past 24 hours. 

With this, total recoveries from the virus now stands at 36,624.

A total of 105 patients are currently treated in intensive care, with 40 requiring breathing assistance.

Of the five deaths today, four were reported in Sabah, with the remaining fatality in Perak.

The Sabah deaths included a 25-year-old male, the youngest fatality today, who had underlying conditions of schizophrenia and obesity.

The other four deaths were elderly people.

The Damanlela construction site cluster in Kuala Lumpur contributed 206 cases, the highest number from a single cluster, all of whom were foreign nationals.

The Teratai cluster in Selangor reported 142 cases, 131 of which were foreigners.

Four prison clusters – Sandakan Prison, Tembok, Kepayan Prison and Seberang Prai Prison – together contributed 172 of today’s cases.

While five clusters were declared inactive (Bangau-Bangau, Tasik, Olive, Buang Sayang and Kau Sing), five new groupings were reported today, in Sabah, Kuala Lumpur, Penang, Kelantan and Terengganu. – November 17, 2020.
