Police report more than 5,200 Macau scam cases in 2020

POLICE officers took statements reporting 5,218 Macau scam cases nationwide between January and October this year, involving estimated losses of more than RM256 million.

Bukit Aman Commercial CID director Zainuddin Yaacob said 2,676 cases were solved by police, of which 1,420 cases went to court.

“The victims are mostly women, at least 3,000 cases, and most of them are more than 51 years old.

“In general, the victims were placed under a lot of stress and were afraid of being arrested and locked up, in addition to the fear of having their property seized.

“Do not answer calls from unknown persons, and if you do answer and asked to transfer money to any government department account, do not do so as the government has never given any instructions to the public to transfer money from one account to another,” he said at a press conference at Malacca police headquarters today. – Bernama, November 16, 2020.
