PAS MP wants entertainment barred during epidemic

PUTRAJAYA should prohibit all forms of entertainment that goes against Islamic laws, said PAS lawmaker Abdul Latiff Abdul Rahman.

“More so during the month when Muslims celebrate the birth of Prophet Muhammad,” the Kuala Krai MP said during a debate on Budget 2021 in the Dewan Rakyat today.

“It is inappropriate and too much. Entertainment programmes are irrelevant when many Malaysians have lost their jobs and incomes.”

He said the event organisers were disrespectful of the suffering of the people and the country.

Earlier, Latiff said God had control of the Covid-19 pandemic and the best protection against infection, apart from obeying the SOPs, was to return to God.

“We must refrain from committing sin whether individually or as the government which angers God and stops him from lifting this scourge.”

He did not name the so-called offensive entertainment events but he is believed to be commenting on Anugerah Bintang Popular BH 33 which was held at the Axiata Arena in Bukit Jalil last weekend.

PAS spoke out against the event but Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the event was not categorised as forbidden during the CMCO period.

  • Clearly this is religious bigotry. Why bar what is non Islam? You can temporarily prohibit the opening of these outlets because of the pandemic. Barring them is obviously an extremely insensitive act ignoring the feelings of other fellow Malaysians.

  • An embarrassment for the country to have such individuals that have no good ideas as leaders. No wonder his voters remain poor and clueless looking for more handouts. Good luck to them.
