Malaysia detects 4 new clusters, now 160

FOUR new Covid-19 clusters were detected today, two each in Sabah and Penang/Kedah.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said the clusters are Istimewa and Alila (Sabah), and Assumption and Rajawali (Penang).

“For the Istimewa cluster in Sandakan, the index case tested positive on October 20, and from contact tracing, we found 15 others infected. All patients have been sent to Duchess of Kent Hospital.

“As of today, 54 people have been screened, with 16 positive, 27 negative, and 11 still awaiting results.”

In the Alila cluster, Noor Hisham said the index patient tested positive on October 5 and infected 22 others. 

They have been sent to Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

“To date, 317 people have been tested. There are 23 cases with two new infections. The remaining 294 are waiting for their results.”

As for the Assumption cluster in Penang, Noor Hisham said it involves the North and Central Seberang Perai districts, as well as Kulim in Kedah.

There are 10 cases in this cluster.

“For the Rajawali cluster in the southwest and northeast districts of Penang, we detected 10 new cases. We have tested 90 people and 15 have been cleared,” he said.

Noor Hisham said two clusters in Kedah – Bah Lunas in Kulim and Baling – as well as Bah Bemban in Dungun, Terengganu and Kota Kinabalu, Sabah, have ended, making the total number of active clusters 160. – November 14, 2020.
