Significant drop in fresh Covid cases in Klang Valley, overall tally still high

AFTER logging more cases than Sabah yesterday, there was a substantial drop of new Covid-19 infections in the Klang Valley, which registered 217 cases in the past 24 hours.

The overall tally in the past 24 hours, however, remains high, with 1,114 cases and two more deaths reported.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah continues to top the chart with 391 cases, followed by Negri Sembilan with 371 infections.

There were also 803 recoveries, bringing the total number of those discharged to 33,772.

“Most of the cases in Klang Valley today are from the clusters, with 145 cases.

“As for Negri Sembilan, 97.8% of today’s cases come from the Cergas cluster.

“Meanwhile, 65 cases are related to prison clusters, with 45 from the Tembok cluster, Seberang Perai prison cluster (14), Sandakan prison (3), Kepyan prison (2) and GK Tawau cluster with only 1.”

“Of the 1,114 new cases in the country, two infections are imported cases of an individual from Indonesia and another from Jordan,” Noor Hisham said.

Sabah topped the number of new infections with 391, followed by Negri Sembilan (371), Selangor (199), Perak (53), Penang (34), Kuala Lumpur (13), Johor (15), Kedah (10), Labuan (8), Malacca (6), Kelantan (5), Putrajaya (4) and Sarawak (3).

Noor Hisham said 803 individuals have also recovered from the virus, taking the total number of recoveries to 33,772.

“A total of 103 people are being treated in intensive care, with 43 of them intubated,” he added.

The two deaths reported today takes the cumulative number of fatalities in Malaysia to 306. – November 14, 2020.
