REGISTERING your location on the MySejahtera app to enter a petrol station is only required when going into the convenience store, surau or toilet, Defence Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob said.
“I want to make it clear today, after reports of a person receiving a fine at a petrol station, anyone entering the convenience store to buy food or drinks, to use the ATM, or to pay at the counter must register with MySejahtera or do it manually,” he said.
“If you pay using the pigeon-hole window or by cards, or need to fix your tyre pressure, then there is no need to register.
“However, if you use the surau or toilet, you have to register. I hope we are all clear on this,” he said today at his daily briefing on movement restrictions to curb the spread of Covid-19.
The defence minister was asked to clarify the matter after Bukit Aman CID deputy director Mior Faridalathrash Wahid said yesterday that people must register with the MySejahtera app before filling up at fuel pump.
Mior’s remarks came after a voice recording of a man alleging his father had been fined RM1,000 by police officers went viral on social media.
The man insisted his father had been stopped by officers at the pump, despite the fact he was wearing a face mask.
Mior said police needed to be able to trace everyone who had been to the petrol station in the event of Covid-19 infection involving the premises.
However, the police’s position contradicted that of the Health Ministry Crisis Preparedness and Response Centre, which said people do not need to register to use the petrol pump. – November 10, 2020.
