151 Covid-19 clusters still active, says health minister

THERE remains 151 active Covid-19 clusters across the country, Health Minister Dr Adham Baba said today.

“The Health Ministry has screened 129,227 people in these active clusters,” he said in a written reply to the Dewan Rakyat.

Of the 151 active clusters, 64 are residential clusters while 63 are workplace clusters.

There are also nine detention centre clusters, nine high-risk (senior citizens and health workers) clusters, three religious clusters and three imported clusters.

Another 125 clusters, in which 194,527 people were screened, have been declared inactive.

Since the pandemic’s onset and up until yesterday, 276 Covid-19 clusters were detected, yielding a total of 39,357 cases and 286 deaths.

“The biggest cluster so far is the Sri Petaling tabligh cluster that had 3,375 positive cases with 42,023 people screened.

“The cluster began on March 11 and was officially closed on July 8. The index case is believed to have been imported from Indonesia,” said Adham.

He added that Sabah has the most number of recorded cases at 20,234, with 149 deaths.

Adham, who is also Tenggara MP, was responding to Mohd Fasciae Mohd Fakeh’s (Sabak Bernam-Bersatu) question on the number of active clusters in the country.

There were no follow-up questions as, under the new rules in Parliament due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the government is only required to produce written replies.

The new set of Parliament protocols, which limits Dewan Rakyat sessions to 80 MPs, came into force yesterday. – November 10, 2020.
