COMBINED new Covid-19 cases in Klang Valley and Negri Sembilan surpassed new infections in Sabah today, said director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah.

He said Negri Sembilan recorded 260 cases while Selangor had 137, followed by Kuala Lumpur (22) and Putrajaya (5).

Sabah, on the other hand, had 370 new infections.

When asked for the reason for the spike in cases in Negri Sembilan, Noor Hisham said there were several active clusters in the state that contributed to the figures.

“We have more than six active clusters. There are also certain areas under the targeted enhanced movement-control order (TEMCO). Swabs have been taken, and we hope to screen more.

“We have carried out risk assessment and run public health intervention and take all precautionary measures,” Noor Hisham said at a press conference in Putrajaya today.

As per Health Ministry’s data, there are nine clusters involving Negri Sembilan – Cergas (250 overall cases), Kaya (614), Lengkuk (180), Gedong (65), Hentian (430), Jernih (34), Taman Bunga (45), Auto (126) and Ikhtisas (24).

Noor Hisham also said the Gedong and Hentian clusters were spreading, with high Covid-19 figures.

He said a targeted lockdown has been extended in these two areas.

“Gedong involves schools and this cluster is actually spreading.

“We also looked into the Hentian cluster, which involves foreign workers. The cases here are also high.

“So, we have extended TEMCO in those areas,” he said.

Today, Malaysia reported a record 1,345 recoveries, topping the number of new infections in the country. – November 9, 2020.
