AFTER five consecutive days of reporting more than 1,000 daily Covid-19 cases, the number of new infections returned to three digits as Malaysia recorded 852 new cases.
This brings the cumulative cases to 40,209, crossing the 40,000 mark for the first time.
Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah, Labuan and Klang Valley contributed to 83.2% of today’s total cases.
“Sabah recorded 524 cases (61.5%), while Klang Valley recorded 161 (18.9%) and Labuan recorded 24 (2.8%).
“All these five states are under the conditional movement-control order (CMCO),” Noor Hisham said in a statement today.
Noor Hisham said Malaysia recorded four deaths as of noon today, bringing the fatalities toll to 286.
Of the four, two deaths were reported in Sabah, one in Perak and the other in Kedah.
All the victims were aged 60 and above, with the oldest being 81, a woman from Sabah, who had a medical history of high blood pressure and breast cancer.
The other victim from Sabah, a 66-year-old man also had heart disease.
The victim in Kedah, a 62-year-old woman, had a medical history of diabetes, high blood pressure and chronic kidney disease.
There were no medical records for the 62-year-old man from Perak.
Malaysia also recorded 825 recoveries today, bringing the total to 28,234.
The number of active cases now stands at 11,689.
A total of 94 are being treated in intensive care, with 32 requiring breathing assistance. – November 8, 2020.
