2 killed in helicopter accident

TWO individuals died today after two helicopters collided mid-air near a school in Taman Melawati, Kuala Lumpur.

Pandan Fire and Rescue Department said two other individuals were also involved in the crash. Their condition is unknown.

“Initial investigations show that two helicopters collided mid-air and crashed near a Tamil school in Taman Melawati.

“There were three males and one female in the helicopters. We received an emergency call from the public at 11.45am on Sunday,” said a fire personnel.

A video clip of one of the helicopters plunging before crashing at the school has gone viral on social media.

Pictures of the public trying to help the victims also made rounds on Twitter this morning.

Ampang Jaya police chief Mohamad Farouk Esha confirmed that former Malaysia Airlines Bhd (MAS) group chief executive officer Ahmad Jauhari Yahya survived the mid-air collision.

He said Jauhari, 66, and Tan Chai Eian, 51, were in the helicopter that landed near a Tamil school.

He said the two men killed were Mohamed Sabri Baharom, 56, and Mohd Irfan Fikri Mohamed Rawi, 44.

“We believe they were from Subang, heading to Genting Sempah. We are investigating the cause of death, while the crash investigation will be conducted by the Department of Civil Aviation,” he told reporters at the scene. – November 8, 2020.
