3 locations in Sabah to go under lockdown tomorrow

THE Tawau temporary detention centre, Sandakan prison, and the prison quarters in Taman Wira, Sandakan will be placed under the enhanced movement-control order (EMCO) effective tomorrow, said Senior Minister Ismail Sabri Yaakob. 

All three locations will be placed under EMCO until November 19.

Ismail Sabri said the National Security Council (NSC) decided to put the three places under EMCO after receiving advice and risk assessment from the Health Ministry (MOH).

“As of November 4, a screening by MOH recorded 440 positive Covid-19 cases involving detainees and staff of the Tawau temporary detention centre.

“While, as of November 5, a total of 11 positive cases were detected at the Sandakan prison,” he said in his daily briefing on Covid-19 movement restrictions today.

Ismail said the EMCO in the Tawau temporary detention centre would involve a total of 1,707 individuals, which include 1,603 prisoners and 104 staff.

Meanwhile, the Sandakan prison and quarters will involve 1,605 individuals, of which 1,308 are prisoners and 297 staff. – November 5, 2020.
