Number of new Covid-19 cases still above 1,000 as death toll climbs

Malaysia has reported 1,009 new Covid-19 cases in the past 24 hours, while another six patients have died. – The Malaysian Insight pic by Hasnoor Hussain, November 5, 2020.

NEW Covid-19 cases still remain high in the country as the Health Ministry reported 1,009 new cases in the last 24 hours, with the bulk from Sabah.

Director-general of health Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah said Sabah recorded 564 new cases in the past 24 hours.

He said this was followed by Selangor, which recorded 177 new cases and Labuan with 92 new cases.

Another six deaths were reported – five in Sabah and one in Selangor – bringing the death toll to 277.

“The new cases today bring the total number of Covid-19 positive cases in the country to 36,434 with the number of active cases standing at 10,503,” he told a press conference in Putrajaya today.

Meanwhile, 839 patients had recovered from the virus, bringing the total number of recoveries to 25,654.

Noor Hisham said that six deaths were reported today.

He added that out of the total number of cases detected today, nine are imported. 

Of the 1,000 local cases, four were visitors returning from Sabah. 

“This brings the total number of cases reported to have a history of travel to Sabah since September 20 to 483.”

Noor Hisham said to date, there are 78 Covid-19 positive cases being treated at the intensive care unit (ICU), of which 28 cases require respiratory assistance. – November 5, 2020.
